Who are the Dorks?
Really, who isn’t a dork these days? But, if you’re curious about our troupe of Dorks, read on.
Dorks in Dungeons is an acclaimed comedy troupe based in Portsmouth, NH.
Dorks first formed in 2012 at the Players’ Ring during a small weekend festival focused on alternative theatre events. Over the next three years, the show continued to perform monthly, moving to the Seacoast Rep in 2013 as part of the Red Light Series curated by Knate Higgins. For season 4, the Dorks are moving to 3S Artspace, where they will continue to support the Red Light Series’ endeavor to be a home for alternative programming in Portsmouth.
The Dorks have shared the stage with guests from film and television, such as Miltos Yerolemou from Game of Thrones and Mark Patton from Nightmare on Elm Street 2, as well as local actors from a variety of production companies. Some shows have even incorporated musical underscoring from live musicians with Miles Burns, Artistic Director of the Seacoast Rep, as the most-often recurring musical guest.
The Dorks have had the opportunity to travel and perform at various conventions including Gen Con in Indianapolis – the original role-playing game convention started by Gary Gygax, co-creator of Dungeons and Dragons. Dorks in Dungeons has also appeared at Boston Comic Con, Granite State Comic Con, PortConMaine, and Hal-Con in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
In 2013, Dorks in Dungeons was awarded Best of NH 2013 Editor’s Pick: Best Improv Comedy by New Hampshire Magazine. They have also written their own book, the Dorks in Dungeons Setting Guide, which was recently updated for the fourth season.
